On May 21st, 2011, Harry and I welcomed the most beautiful baby girl into our lives. Her name is Lucy.

I was told I would be amazed by how much I could love her, and I knew it would be true. Even so, I could have never imagined how wonderful it would be to meet her.
The moment the nurse placed Lucy in my arms was incredible, and even more powerful than I ever expected. Harry and I stared at her in awe. We began talking to her, and she quietly studied and stared at us. It was love at first sight.

From the moment Lucy arrived, we have been surrounded by an outpouring of support and love from our friends and family. We’ve had over 20 meals delivered to us, and we’ve had a steady flow of visitors, including my family from Michigan.

On Sunday, June 12, Lucy was baptized. My Mom and Dad were here to share in the joy of the occasion. Before Lucy’s baptism, Harry and I chose a life verse for her. The verse comes from Colossians 1:9-10, it’s a powerful parenting passage that we will pray over her as she grows. This passage says,

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way.”

Listening to Harry talk to Lucy makes my heart sing. He is so excited to play with her when he gets home from work. He is an amazing father. God has richly blessed us with this sweet little bundle of cuteness.

the story of my hand

i better just share the story about my hand so you aren’t dying from the suspense–but you’re getting the gossip in lowercase and bad grammar because captain hook says so. on monday, i fractured my hand while putting a car seat in the back of my car. it happened while feeding the seat belt through the back of the car seat. the fracture happened because i have a tumor in my hand that caused the bone to weaken. The tumor is non-cancerous, and has never bothered me before. i didn’t even know it was there. anyway, the doc gave me a splint instead of a cast so that i’ll be able to care for webbette more easily. in 4-6 weeks i’ll have hand surgery. luckily, my mom will be in town by then so i’ll have an extra “hand” around the house—get it? and while i’m on the topic, do you have any idea how difficult it is to scoop ice cream left-handed?! so, that’s the story. looks like harry will be changing more diapers than he thought.

Waiting

So much has happened since my last post. I feel like I’m stuck in a waiting stage. I’m waiting for our baby girl to arrive. I’m waiting to find out if I have a teaching job next year, and as of Monday, I’m waiting for my fractured hand to heal. Today I have a heavy heart, and while I hate to be such a Debbie Downer, I feel I owe it to those of you who read my blog to know how I’m really doing–at least for today. Had I typed this post yesterday or Sunday, it would have been different. I had a great weekend and a great day yesterday. I spent time with some awesome friends, I was given a wonderful baby shower, and I spent time on the phone with far-away friends.

Today though, I feel God calling me to be still and have faith that He will provide. No matter what.

The girls from school put on a lovely baby shower for me on Saturday morning. I had Harry take a few pictures of me afterward because frankly, I haven’t been doing much dressing up lately. Most of my outfits consist of pajama pants and Harry’s oversized t-shirts.

37 weeks. Thanks Steph, for letting me wear your dress (twice).See? I should have blogged after the baby shower. This post would have been a lot better.

I want to write more, but my right hand looks like Captain Hook, and I’m typing with my pointer fingers.

I’m leaving you with Spring’s hottest new fashion accessory. You know you’re jealous.

What I Wore Wednesday | Volume 3

I’m linking up with Pleated Poppy for another week of What I Wore Wednesday. I almost didn’t have Harry take these pictures. I just woke up from a nap, and I’m having one of those days. My legs are so swollen. I can push my thumb in my shin and make a dent. It looks like I have legs made of Playdoh. I didn’t spice my outfit up with accessories today either. Oh, the shame. On the brighter side, I had an important appointment with the doctor today and Webbette is doing great. She passed her non stress test with flying colors. So, even though I waddle wherever I go, this little girl makes it all worth it.

What I Wore Wednesday | volume 2

I’m back. I haven’t forgotten about you. I’m not even sure where to start the recap of what I’ve been up to during my blogging hiatus. Glad to know a few of you missed me. Arlet asked if I had given up blogging for Lent. I wish that were my excuse.

My sister-in-law, Amy, recently spent a week visiting us. It was her first visit to sunny California. Sunny it was not. The whole week was a long, torrential downpour of rain. All those indoor recesses wore me out. Although the week was filled with miserable weather, we still gave Amy a grand tour of CA. Harry and Amy even managed to squeeze in an afternoon of boogie boarding in the ocean. I had to sit that one out.

On Saturday, Stephanie threw me a baby shower. She went all out. We had a delicious brunch, a dream tree for guests to write their prayers for baby Webb, banana cake, and more. I felt very loved. This shower was with the girls in our couples group from church. Tomorrow the students and parents in my class are throwing me a shower at school. It’s going to be great.

On Monday it was super warm. I took my first Spring swim in the pool, and it was delightful.

Within the past couple weeks I’ve photographed a 7 day old newborn, mother-daughter authors, and a family of three. Stay tuned for some of my favorite images from some of those sessions.

And since it’s What I Wore Wednesday, I’ve got an outfit for you. It was pure torture having it taken because it was windy and freezing, but you asked, and I couldn’t let you down. So here I am: 32.5 weeks pregnant.

Friend Friday – Most Important Blogging Lessons and more…

Then I decided to take a blogging break on Saturday and Sunday too. Today I’m linking up with Modly Chic and posting my Friend post below. This week’s topic focused on important lessons of blogging. Here are the four lessons I’ve learned so far.

1. Blogging is more than just documenting thoughts for the world to see. It’s about sharing our interests, style, challenges, and life with people who care. Blogging isn’t just about one person behind a computer, it’s about the interaction you have with your readers.

2. There is only one Mindy Webb. (Actually, that’s not true. I think there may be another Mindy Webb living in Chico, but you know what I mean.) Be yourself. It’s so easy to compare ourselves to others and admire who they are, but no one can be a better you than you. Be proud, and be authentic.

3. It’s easy to admire other blogs who have thousands of followers and hundreds of daily comments and wonder, “Wow, what’s the secret?” These thriving blogs do not happen overnight. I think the authors of great blogs work a lot harder than we imagine.

4. Getting comments motivates the author to keep posting. When I see your comments, it reminds me I have an audience. Knowing this, makes me want to keep writing so I can hear from you!
